Overview
The Aquatics Coordinator leads and manages all aquatics functions at the YMCA of Mount Vernon, including swim lessons, lifeguard training, pool operations, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. You will play a vital role in creating a safe and engaging aquatic environment for participants of all ages and promoting aquatic activities. This full-time role operates independently, with guidance from the Director of Membership & Community Engagement.
What you’ll do
- Hire, train, lead, and coach swim instructors and lifeguards ensuring adherence to safety standards.
- Plan and manage swim lessons, lifeguard courses, and pool schedules
- Serve as on-deck supervisor for swim lessons and fill coverage gaps as needed
- Ensure compliance with YMCA standards, including emergency procedures
- Track staff certifications, program records, and chemical logs
- Identify opportunities to improve programs and increase participation
Basic qualifications
- Lifeguard certified
- Willingness to become a Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Lesson Instructor
- Strong initiative and leadership skills; able to work independently
- Passionate about water safety, teaching, and mentoring staff
- Flexible schedule: 2 evenings/week required for swim lessons
