What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health & Wellness Coordinator/ Group Ex Instructor position at YMCA of Metro North?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for the supervision and management of all facets assigned to the Health and Wellness Program. The programs include, but are not limited to, health and wellness programs for adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations, group exercise classes, personal training, and all paid programs. This position is also responsible for the development, administration, supervision and membership service delivery of the Health and Wellness Department.
Higher Rate will commensurate for hours worked under group exercise instructor; hour rate: $30 - $40 an hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations.
- Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
- Work within established budget.
- Ensure that all programs meet YMCA of USA/A.C.S.M. standards.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate part time wellness coaches, instructors, personal trainers and volunteers.
- Purchase supplies as needed
- Maintain equipment in good repair.
- Maintain and increase enrollment numbers.
- Integrate a comprehensive health and wellness approach in all programs for children, youth, teens adults and special population.
- Initiate new programs.
- Develop policy and procedures for classes and fitness center.
- If qualified, teach Group Exercise classes on a permanent or as needed basis.
- Demonstrate activities and specific exercises and techniques to members
- Hold staff meetings.
- Interact with members.
- Remain current in required and voluntary training in order to promote growth of mind and spirit and character values for all.
- Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
- Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or Exercise Physiology.
- Certified Personal Trainer is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in the fitness field with supervisory skills.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:
- Experience supervising staff and working with staff and members to meet the branch goals.
- Demonstrated skills in budget development and management, planning, and facility management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- This position is required to work in the fitness center and instruct members as well as teach fitness classes, demonstrating appropriate and correct techniques.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Some weekend and evening work is expected.
