Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are looking for a certified teacher to work in the Summer Learning Loss Prevention (SLLP) program in a Summer Camp setting. The part-time Reading Enrichment Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and leading the educational activities of the SLLP program under the supervision of a Program Director. The Reading Intervention Teacher guides the academic and social development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment that promotes progress and learning.
Essential Functions:
The Reading Enrichment Teacher will be responsible for the following:
- Preparing lesson plans according to the Four Blocks Literacy curriculum model.
- Working with the Site Director to administer the pre- and post- reading STAR assessments.
- Attend all required trainings and staff meetings.
- Instructing and facilitating according to the Four Blocks model and leading the classroom according to the fidelity and quality requirements.
- Ensuring 1:8 ratio is maintained throughout the literacy portion of the day.
- Meeting daily with the Teacher Assistant to review activities and ensure continuity of classroom support strategies, and ensuring desired program goals and outcomes are met.
- Proactively managing classroom behavior.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of students (e.g., inclusion accommodations, English language learner strategies).
- Monitoring and reporting to the Site Director on weekly attendance, student progress, and behavior.
- Assisting the Site Director with planning and attending the parent/caregiver workshops.
- Working with volunteers and community partners, as needed.
- Decorating classrooms according to the weekly theme to create a stimulating learning environment.
- Setting up for and cleaning up after all classroom activities.
- Collaborating with Enrichment Leaders to ensure literacy instruction is aligned with enrichment activities.
- Assisting the Site Director in other duties as assigned.
- Employee will accurately report work time via the approved YMCA Clocking method

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Current State teaching certification.
- A minimum of two years’ teaching experience in an early childhood or elementary education setting.
- Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in planning and delivering reading instruction.
- Must possess speaking, listening, and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
- Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose, and goals, childcare policies, and YMCA standards; ensure the program meets the highest standards of excellence.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The work schedule for this position is typically Monday - Friday from 9 am - 3 pm, but hours may require flexibility depending on business needs.
