POSITION SUMMARY
The Junior Olympic Volleyball Coach is responsible for coaching and mentoring players in the game of volleyball. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Attend all required Coaches meeting and trainings, team practices and tournaments.
- Show concern for player safety and well-being.
- Teach volleyball skill, rules and etiquette to the best of your ability in both practice and game environments.
- Maintain an excellent means of two-way communication with parents & players.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

- High school diploma or GED required; or three to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be IMPACT certified and have Adult JO Referee Certification and maintain required continuing education through USA Volleyball. Must have experience playing volleyball with volleyball coaching experience preferred.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Math skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole number, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Soft skills: Ability to be fair and consistent in working with players to foster an atmosphere of trust. Ability to be organized in planning practices and communicating with players and parents. Ability and willingness to exhibit life-long learning habits and increase knowledge through additional training and clinics. Ability to effectively communicate with all socio-economic levels and demographics represented in the community.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
- Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood borne pathogen training required after hire and must remain current. Must be IMPACT certified and maintain Adult JO Volleyball Referee Certification.
