POSITION SUMMARY
The Camping Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising the department or program as outlined below, ensuring that all policies and procedures are enforced as those duties are carried out. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists the Cabin and Group life Program Director in the supervision of camp, conference and outdoor education staff by participating in the hiring and training of staff, coordinating work needs and schedules, providing input into team performance evaluation, and developing strategies to motivate staff to achieve stated goals. Ensures required certifications are current for all branch staff and volunteers.
- Works with the Cabin and Group life Program Director to direct and supervise existing programs, establish new program activities, and expand existing programs with a focus on quality, fun, and safety. Implements character development, mission, diversity initiatives, and quality initiatives into program and member service delivery. Seeks feedback from participants & leaders and recommends appropriate program changes to ensure guest needs are met.
- Works with campers, guests, and staff to create and organize daily program schedules including coordinating the use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Keeps all departmental equipment in safe, operable, and clean condition. Monitors equipment, supplies, and/ or other program materials, purchasing materials as directed.
- Develops relationships with guests and families to create strong word-of-mouth marketing throughout camps and programs and leverage those relationships with ongoing year-round communication intended to strengthen relationships and increase return visits.
- Works with Program Director to create yearly marketing/social media plan and lead the staff team in the goals to grow camp numbers. Responsible to make sure social media is used to best purpose.
- Works with school programs to market day camp.
- Assists Cabin and Group life Program Director in monitoring program budget, including providing accurate and timely details on forecasting and variance analyses. Adjust staff and program expenses as directed to meet budget targets.
- Prepares and submits reports as directed.
- Carries out other administrative tasks as needed or assigned including but not limited to timely response to inquiries, timely and accurate semi-monthly payroll input, participation in required meetings and training and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides day-to-day supervision for staff and volunteers within the department/program. Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training employees and/or volunteers; planning, assigning and directing work; resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. One to two years of youth-related experience preferred.
- Reading, math & communications skills.
- Ability to do basic math and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, customers, and the public. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to always maintain a positive attitude and positive relationships with all people regardless of negative influences that may be present at any time. Good listening skills, ability to address concerns and communicate that need to the Cabin and Group life Program Director. Ability to be always accessible and approachable. Ability to set a high standard of performance.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds while moving tables, setting up program equipment and moving camp supplies.
- There are no specific vision requirements but the ability to be certified in required program areas requires sight.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens certification required upon hire and must be maintained. Certifications to instruct and lead in multiple program areas also required.
