POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Counselor for the Camp Shepard Teen Group provides daily leadership, supervision, and programming for campers ages 13–14. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experience where teens build confidence, leadership skills, teamwork, and independence. The Lead Counselor also coaches other teen staff and supports high-quality program delivery.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Lead and supervise a group of teen campers with energy, structure, and consistency.
2. Serves in a counselor capacity to meet ratio requirements.
3. Plan and implement daily teen-focused programming including team building, sports, leadership activities, and special events.
4. Foster positive relationships with teens and serve as a mentor and role model.
5. Support and coach teen counselors in delivery of program and behavior management.
6. Maintain safety standards, supervise transitions, and enforce camp policies.
7. Communicate professionally with families regarding camper progress or concerns.
8. Complete attendance records and incident documentation as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Understanding of child development and behavior management.
· Minimum age 18
· Experience working with adolescents in camp, school, or youth programs
· Strong leadership and communication skills
· Ability to manage group dynamics and promote positive behavior

· Requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/OTHER
· Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

- Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
- Will sometimes work early morning, late nights, and weekends.

Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities and excellent written communication skills with proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
