What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Workshop Instructor - Waukesha position at YMCA of Greater Waukesha County?
DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the department director, and in accordance with the Association policies set forth by the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County, the youth safety instructor is responsible for introducing, leading, and demonstrating safety programs such as Stranger Danger, Home Alone, and Babysitting to participants in a safe, nurturing, and healthy environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage classroom of children and deliver curriculum for youth safety classes.
- Create an environment that is welcoming and nurturing for all participants.
- Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with program participants and their parents. Act as a positive role model using the YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, responsibility, and respect.
- Conduct and provide participant evaluation during each program session.
- Secure a qualified substitute instructor when unavailable to lead assigned program.
- Provide a safe environment for participants. Ensure program equipment and supplies are in good condition.
- Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Distribute necessary program information and be knowledgeable of upcoming program sessions and other YMCA events.
- Attend and participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
- Responsible for strict adherence to all YMCA of Greater Waukesha County policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Employee is held responsible for all duties of the job.
EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to demonstrate and verbally articulate complex topics, instructions, and skills to appropriate age groups.
- Previous experience working with children is required.
- Must be energetic, motivating, and enjoy working with youth.
