Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Camp Coordinator, the Naturalist II (Y Rangers Program) is responsible for teaching and maintaining the safety of students and campers while exploring themes of environment, history, community, and wellness. Naturalist II’s develop and deliver environmentally based curriculum and community-building experiences that emphasize environmental and cooperative outdoor activities and nature engagement for students in grades K-10 and from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, geographic and educational backgrounds. The position requires the physical ability to participate in strenuous activities and the knowledge and skill to lead and educate while making learning fun!
Naturalist II’s will serve as the liaison between the Y-Rangers program, participating YMCA branches and programmatic partners.
Job Responsibilities
This is a Seasonal Full-Time position. You will be paid bi-weekly at a rate ranging from $20.18-$26.00/hr.

Job Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and lead environmental, outdoor, group-building and wellness activities for students in grades K-10, from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, geographic and educational backgrounds.
- Create and implement curriculum that integrates YMCA goals and objectives, that is relevant to programmatic goals of the YMCA and program partners, as well as the needs of your campers.
- Serve as the nature engagement unit director for assigned camp cohorts.
- Support branch camp counselors in matters of camper behavior and other needs as they arise.
- Facilitate relationships with park partners.
- Adhere to all YMCA of San Francisco, Point Bonita YMCA and National Park Service procedures and regulations, including safety, timeliness, mandated reporting, and risk management.
- Maintain program supplies and fulfill assigned housekeeping and coordinating responsibilities.
- Maintain current trainings and certifications and attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Facilitate implementation of program surveys as required.
- Communicate programmatic needs to supervisor as needed.
- Aid and comfort sick or injured participants to the level of your training; facilitate additional emergency and medical response as necessary.
- Maintain professional image through dress, nametag, actions, and relationships with others.
- Complete all mandatory ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA e-Learning before the first shift in the facility.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
- Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff.

- Staff working on school campuses will be required to complete additional COVID safety trainings.
- Note that you will be in the field the entire time when facilitating programs.
- Must successfully complete a background screening, including criminal and employment verification. Some positions may also require a credit check.
