After School Group Leaders

The Afterschool Group Leader provides a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for elementary-aged children. This role supervises children, builds positive relationships, and leads activities such as games, homework support, outdoor play, STEM, arts, and group experiences. Group Leaders support children's social-emotional development, promote a sense of belonging, and model the YMCA's core values. The ideal candidate is energetic, dependable, flexible, and enjoys working as part of a team.

• Monday–Friday: 2:30 PM–6:00 PM
• Early Release Days: 11:30 AM–6:00 PM
• School Vacations/Non-School Days: Programs are open 7:00 AM–6:00 PM. Must be available to work an 8-hour shift within this timeframe.
• Snow Days: Programs are open 7:00 AM–6:00 PM, with opening times dependent on the storm. Must be available to work an 8-hour shift within this timeframe.

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Experience working with school-age children preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to create a safe, positive, and engaging environment.
• Dependable, caring, flexible, and able to work well as part of a team.

• Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
• Actively supervise children and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
• Lead and participate in engaging activities and daily routines.
• Assist with homework and encourage teamwork, leadership, and positive interactions.
• Follow program schedules, YMCA policies, procedures, and behavior management practices.
• Model the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Communicate with families about children's participation and well-being.
• Immediately report safety concerns or suspected child abuse according to YMCA and state requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the team to support program goals and YMCA initiatives.
• Complete all required training and participate in ongoing professional development.
