Job Title: Fit Desk Attendant
Home Location: St. Joseph
Status: Part Time
Reports To: Wellness Coordinator
Supervisory Responsibility: No
POSITION SUMMARY: To further the mission of the YMCA; promote health and wellness to all individuals by providing a positive member experience and sharing knowledge for use of fitness equipment. To assist in providing a safe and clean environment for all member and guests.
ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure the environment for exercising is safe.
2. Maintain a clean work environment by following the cleaning/preventative maintenance schedule.
3. Verbally communicate our “Best Practices” guidelines to our members in wellness and fitness areas.
4. Review and understand all YMCA policies and guidelines to ensure we are creating a safe environment for all.
5. Re-rack weights in free weight room and return dumbbells to proper location.
6. Dress appropriately as instructed by the dress code.
7. Motivate members by demonstrating enthusiasm for exercise.
8. Be always visible to the members and act in a manner that is welcoming and inviting to those members who may need assistance or have questions.
9. Ensure all member needs are met through personal recognition and quality service.
10. Arrive on time and be prepared and organized for each shift.
11. Attend all mandatory meetings as directed by supervisor.
12. Assume any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
13. Implement, follow, and respond to all emergency procedures.
14. Complete the Fit Desk onboarding process.
15. Review and support gym monitoring expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have excellent communication skills to engage members.
2. Must be in ample condition to teach proper use of all exercise machines.
3. Must have a keen sense of awareness to maintain a safe and friendly environment.
4. Completion of CPR, First Aid, AED, and bloodborne pathogens within 30 days.
5. Experience preferred in a customer service-related field or assertive communication.
6. Experience preferred in exercise, sports, and/or fitness.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

2. Duties require lifting and/or moving up to 45 pounds.
3. Must be able to access all areas of the YMCA building and other assigned spaces including pool areas, closets, group fitness studios, locker rooms, stairwells, and wellness center.
4. Reaching, twisting, and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus without color-blindness.
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
