Position Summary:
Responsible for the planning, execution, and interacting with members and participants during daily activities for various age groups in the gym or sports field. Provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on youth development, including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
Essential Functions:
- Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values and character development model into all program activities.
- Plans, implements and instructs sport-specific drills with a goal of growing participants' skills. Teaches rules for each sport.
- Facilitates informal games/scrimmages.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Maintains program area and equipment, assists with set-up and breakdown of activity centers.
- Maintains required program records.
- Maintains positive engagement with all members and participants to enhance the member experience.
- Actively engage youth in safe, fun and educational activities while offering opportunities to make choices, listen, help and support each other.
- Listens to concerns, answers questions, and addresses coaches, players and parents in a calm, fair and professional manner.
- Immediately reports problems, inappropriate situations or behaviors to Sports Director.
- Assists in YMCA annual campaign fundraising and special events.
- Follows association approved instructional curriculum.
- Attends all staff meetings and training sessions as requested or required.
- All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Prior childcare experience. Sports related knowledge in a youth setting is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Soccer Proficiency: Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency, skill, and knowledge in soccer, including fundamentals, techniques, rules, positioning, drills, skill development, and game concepts.
- Youth Instruction: Experience coaching, instructing, or working directly with youth ages 3 and up, with the ability to adjust instruction based on age, developmental stage, experience, and skill level.
- Bilingual Communication:Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred and able to communicate effectively and professionally with youth, parents, families, school personnel, community partners, and YMCA staff.
- Required Availability: Must be available daily between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to support scheduled programming and maintain consistent attendance and punctuality. Additional evening or weekend availability may be required based on program needs. Weekends and some evenings may be required.
- Offsite Travel: Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel consistently and easily to assigned offsite program locations.
- Instruction & Program Delivery: Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate soccer drills, skill-building activities, games, and scrimmages while providing clear demonstrations, instruction, coaching, and constructive feedback.
- Independent Work: Ability to work independently at offsite locations, manage assigned programs and responsibilities, and maintain consistent communication and accountability with the Director.
- Youth Engagement & Supervision: Must have a strong desire to work with children and the ability to actively engage and supervise youth in a positive, patient, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner while maintaining a safe, fun, educational, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment.
- Communication & Relationship Building: Must possess oral, auditory, and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with children and adults and demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with participants, families, school personnel, community partners, and YMCA staff.
- Professionalism & Problem Solving: Ability to respond to questions, concerns, participant behaviors, and program situations in a calm, fair, professional, and solution-focused manner and promptly communicate incidents or concerns to the Director.
- Community Representation: Positively and professionally represents the YMCA in the community, building trust with schools, families, community partners, and participants while demonstrating professionalism, reliability, respect, and accountability at all offsite locations.
- Program & Safety Standards: Follows YMCA-approved curriculum and all established program, supervision, safety, risk-management, cleanliness, and youth protection standards.
- Program Operations: Responsible for appropriate setup, breakdown, care, transportation, and organization of program equipment and supplies and maintaining accurate attendance and other required program records.
