Amenities: Our 34,000 square foot fitness facility, lap pool, basketball courts, two group exercise studios, youth activity studio, walking trails, an airnasium and more. We offer a range of programs and services designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of our members.

Operational Budget: With a operational budget of $1.8MM, we have the resources needed to maintain and enhance our facility, invest in staff development, and expand our community outreach efforts.

Membership Units: With 1,800 membership units, we proudly serve 5500 members who benefit from our comprehensive health and wellness offerings.

Annual Fundraising Goal: Every year, we set an ambitious fundraising goal to support scholarships and community outreach programs. Join our team and be part of our successful fundraising efforts. This year's fundraising goal is $95,00.

The Center Executive Director at the YMCA of Greater Houston is a leadership role responsible for driving the organization’s mission and values within the local community. This position plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the YMCA’s impact on the well-being of individuals and families through a diverse range of programs and services.

In this role, you will oversee the operations of a YMCA center, including: member experience, youth and family programs, aquatics, healthy living, local grass-roots marketing, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and community relations. You will work within a centralized, matrixed model of staffing with Facilities, Outreach and Out of School Time.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides visionary leadership to motivate and inspire staff. Fosters a culture of inclusivity, collaboration and excellence.
  • Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs that support center and Association mission, goals, and strategies. Work with Program Directors to ensure members receive a high quality, positive member experience in the center and in programs.
  • Builds a strong, engaged and committed board of volunteers and committees.
  • Directs the financial development activities of the center to ensure goals are met.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, supervision and development of center-based staff. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the center-operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the center.
  • Ensures the maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Mitigates risk by implementing appropriate safety measure and protocols. Ensures that the center adheres to YMCA policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Directs center marketing and communication efforts.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Directly oversees at least one program area such as Member Experience.
  • Participates in the center’s Leader on Duty rotation.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of center budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Center Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises full time exempt and non-exempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten work load, develop reports and to automate procedures is very necessary. Ability to diagnose basic PC problems and to communicate those problems is very important.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and availability to work operational hours of the YMCA and sites, which may include day, evenings and weekends.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
