Great opportunity for a dynamic, skilled, and motivated coach to lead an established year-round swim team for the Waukee Family YMCA.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the swim team at the Waukee Family YMCA and for ensuring the safety of participants while operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. This position will need to coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. In addition, this full-time position’s off-deck responsibilities will include administrative and operational tasks vital to team management, growth and culture.

JOB LOCATION: Waukee Family YMCA
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: 40 hour work week including early mornings, evenings and/or weekend hours to accommodate practice schedules and swim competitions.
HOURLY RATE: $19.00-$21.00/hour based on experience & qualifications; Benefits Offered

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare season training plans / themes / focus and develop team events.
• Plan, write, schedule, and direct all team practices and meets.
• Maintain proper records, team lists, and reports as needed.
• Address member concerns by appointments and/or phone conversations.
• Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
• Hire, supervise, train and direct assistant coaches.
• Monitor and maintain equipment.
• Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
• Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
• Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
• Communicate with the team and staff information regarding team activities, meets, goals and daily training plans.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
• Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
• Completion of high school or equivalent
• Two years of competitive coaching experience
• Working knowledge of competitive teams
• Personal computer skills, including the use of Google Workspace or Microsoft Office products, required.
• American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches (Lifeguard certification will be accepted with proof of successful completion of the online Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification)
• Registered USA Swimming Coach preferred
• Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR equivalent – prior to starting if hired.
• Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired and maintained annually.
• YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Online Course - prior to starting if hired.
• Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers and copiers. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position will work in an office and in a pool environment. This position works a standard work week, but will frequently work early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Travel will be required for competitive swim meets including out-of-the-area and overnight travel.
