POSITION OVERVIEW:
Operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, this position is responsible for performing referee duties for assigned games.
JOB LOCATION: Games held at Valley High School Sites - Waukee Family YMCA
SHIFTS AVAILABLE: Saturdays 8:30a-3:30p, 9/12/26-10/17/26
PAY RANGE: $11.00-$13.25/hour based on qualifications
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: August 6, 2026 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Referee assigned game(s)
- Enforce the rules and regulations of assigned game(s).
- Assist site supervisor in maintaining orderly and fun atmosphere for assigned game(s).
- Maintain game records and information as directed by supervisor.
- Ensure safety is a priority at all times.
- Know all emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
- Complete accident/incident reports as necessary and submit to supervisor.
- Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Ability to read, write, execute simple mathematical functions and basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations for football
- Previous experience participating in football
- Perform basic computer skills such as using the computerized time clock and online training requirements
- Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification that meets the YMCA standards OR equivalent - prior to starting.
- Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired, and maintained annually.
- Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required:
- To talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, crawl, use their hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with arms and hands.
- Visual, auditory and verbal ability is required to communicate effectively with children and adults and monitor property and activity.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity
- Ability to adapt to changing working conditions
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in indoor and outdoor oriented environments, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.
