What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard - Camp Ernst YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Cincinnati?
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area. Keeps full attention on the pool and its occupants at all times while sitting in the guard chair or walking around the pool perimeter.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situation immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures. Complete related reports as required.
- Models equity, inclusion and cultural competence in maintaining effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving for duty.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the Y and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate action.
- Attends all lifeguard in-service meetings (a minimum of 1x/month during the school year and bi-monthly from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and/or staff meetings.
- Maintains appropriate certifications, including Lifeguard, CPR Pro, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration. Works with supervisor sixty (60) days in advance of certifications expiration to ensure no lapse in requirements.
- Adheres to established association standards.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 16 years of age.
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire. Ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration and ability to maintain certification-physical/mental readiness.
