The Manager, Healthy Living Paid Programming supports the execution of personal training, CrossFit, Small Group training, Pilates Reformer, and other community health and wellness programs within the YMCA Healthy Living department. This position provides direct supervision and coaching for front-line instructors and trainers, ensures program quality and safety, and supports member engagement. The Supervisor contributes to operational excellence through scheduling, supply management, program delivery, and administrative support, while upholding YMCA values and service standards.

Essential Functions:

• Provide leadership and strategic direction for regional health and wellness programs, including Personal Training, Small Group training, Pilates reformer, CrossFit, Sports Performance, and Community Health initiatives.

• Develop, manage, and monitor program budgets, ensuring financial accountability and alignment with association goals.

• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate personal trainers, instructors, and coaches, ensuring program quality, staff performance, and professional growth.

• Establish and maintain quality and safety standards for all wellness programs, including

compliance with association procedures, certifications, and equipment maintenance.

• Oversee program scheduling, payroll accuracy, and staff coverage to ensure operational

efficiency and participant satisfaction.

• Utilize program management software and reporting tools to track participation, outcomes, and performance metrics and use data to inform decision-making.

• Provide on-the-floor coaching and oversight of staff to reinforce service excellence, safety, and adherence to program standards.

• Collaborate with association leadership and community partners to expand offerings, strengthen engagement, and advance health initiatives.

• Respond to participant and family concerns, providing resolution or escalation support to ensure positive member experiences.

• Ensure program spaces and resources are maintained at a high standard of cleanliness,

readiness, and safety through staff accountability and oversight.

 

Performs other duties and tasks assigned by leadership

  

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health, Fitness, Recreation, or related field; or equivalent education and certifications (e.g., Personal Training or fitness-related certification) or equivalent work experience.

• Current CrossFit Level 1 certification required; Level 2 preferred. National Personal Training certification is preferred.

• 3 years of experience supervising staff in Adult Fitness, Personal Training, Strength Training, or related wellness programs.

• Minimum 1–2 years of direct experience delivering health, fitness, or wellness programs, including group exercise and personal training.

• Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, evaluate, and mentor staff or volunteers.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage effectively with members, staff, and families.

• Knowledge of fitness, wellness, and group exercise program standards, equipment (free weights, sectorized, and cardiovascular), and best practices.

• Proven ability to resolve participant and staff concerns with sound judgment and professionalism.

• Proficiency in scheduling, attendance tracking, and related administrative tasks.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

• Commitment to the YMCA mission, values, and standards of service.

 

All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

 

Working Conditions:

• Work performed in fitness centers, studios, and program areas, with frequent interaction on the wellness floor.

• Required to stand, walk, bend, and demonstrate exercises for extended periods.

• May involve lifting and moving fitness equipment up to 50 lbs.

• Flexible schedule required, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as program needs dictate.

• Fast-paced environment with regular interaction with members, staff, and families.

• Exposure to cleaning products, fitness equipment, and typical gym/studio noise levels.
