The Gym Monitor is responsible for providing a safe, welcoming, and well-supervised environment in YMCA gymnasiums. This position ensures that all members, program participants, and guests follow facility guidelines and demonstrates respectful and responsible behavior. The Gym Monitor supports YMCA programs, assists with equipment setup and care, and promotes positive member engagement.

Essential Functions
• Greet and engage members and guests in the gym, creating a positive and inclusive environment.
• Monitor gymnasium activity to ensure safe and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
• Enforce YMCA policies, rules, and guidelines in a respectful and consistent manner.
• Support the setup and breakdown of gym equipment for programs, open gym time, or scheduled events.
• Respond calmly and appropriately to conflicts, accidents, or rule violations, escalating issues as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the gym area, including routine equipment checks.
• Serve as a visible and approachable presence to assist members with basic questions or concerns.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding member feedback, maintenance issues, or incidents.
• Provide support during youth and adult sports practices or events as assigned.
• Attend required YMCA trainings and staff meetings to maintain compliance and professional development.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Minimum age 16
• Friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor
• Ability to remain alert and observant in a fast-paced environment
• Basic knowledge of gymnasium safety and equipment use
• Reliable and punctual, with flexible availability for evening and weekend shifts
• Ability to enforce rules firmly and fairly while maintaining positive relationships
• Strong communication and customer service skills
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Working Conditions
• Work performed primarily indoors in a gymnasium or recreation setting
• Frequent standing, walking, and light physical activity, including lifting equipment (up to 25 lbs.)
• Exposure to noise, large groups, and varying gym temperatures
• Requires evening and weekend availability based on program schedules
