What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Education Instructor: Camp Thunderbird position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Education and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA the Environmental Education Center Instructor will work as an instructor, being a public relations ambassador with visiting teachers and chaperones and assisting in maintenance of the instructional areas and equipment.
- To take part in all training or in-service activities to develop proficiencies required to perform job responsibilities.
- Be proficient in teaching the program curriculum and concepts
- Promote positive interactions within the class group.
- Be proficient in orienting the students to the facility in order to provide information regarding procedures and safety.
- Provide an outdoor education experience for special population students.
- Maintain a good working relationship with other instructors, administrative staff, maintenance staff, and interns.
- Provide a safe experience for all students.
- Cooperate in maintaining the grounds, and seeing that facility equipment is used properly, and returned promptly in good condition.
- Be sure that students wear proper attire suitable for the existing weather.
- Assist in the mealtime cafeteria procedures.
- Evening responsibilities two nights per week.
Requirements:
- Substitute or teaching experience
- Camp counselor experience
- College degree in related field
- Possess knowledge in the areas of camp programming and student supervision.
