Join our vibrant summer team as a YMCA Summer Camp Counselor in our, Eastside, Westside and Northeast locations! As a camp counselor, you will create a safe, inclusive environment where kids can explore new interests, develop social skills, and build lasting memories. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help foster a positive community atmosphere while supporting children’s growth and development during the summer months. Must be 16 and up.
Duties
- Lead and facilitate engaging activities in areas such as sports, arts and crafts, theater, swimming, field trips and outdoor adventures to promote physical activity and creativity.
- Ensure the safety of all campers by supervising their activities closely and implementing proper behavior management techniques.
- Provide guidance and support to children with diverse needs, including those requiring special education or additional assistance.
- Maintain a positive environment by encouraging teamwork, respect, and kindness among campers.
- Assist with daily camp routines such as check-in/check-out, meal times, and transitions between activities.
- Administer basic first aid when necessary and follow all safety protocols to handle emergencies effectively.
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to plan age-appropriate lessons that foster childhood development and early childhood education principles.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, tutoring, babysitting, or camp environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of classroom management strategies and behavior management techniques.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable; willingness to obtain certification if not already certified.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect with children of various ages and backgrounds.
- Passion for working with children and supporting their social, emotional, and physical development.
- Experience in sports coaching, theater arts, or childcare is a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain high energy levels throughout the day.
