Job Overview
As an After-School Counselor at the YMCA, you will play a vital role in fostering a positive, engaging, and safe environment for children in the after-school program. You will lead activities, support learning, and act as a mentor to students while promoting the YMCA’s core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring.

Duties

• Supervise and Engage: Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by actively monitoring and interacting with children during activities, transitions, and free play.
• Plan and Lead Activities: Facilitate age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and homework assistance, encouraging creativity and collaboration.
• Build Relationships: Develop positive, supportive relationships with children, parents, and fellow staff members. Act as a role model by demonstrating respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
• Behavior Management: Maintain a positive atmosphere by addressing behavior challenges constructively and fostering an environment of mutual respect.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere to YMCA policies and ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and organized manner.
• Program Support: Assist with setup, cleanup, and daily program operations. Communicate any concerns or incidents to the Program Coordinator promptly.

Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Experience working with children in a group setting (preferred).
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to be energetic, creative, and patient.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $8.25 - $10.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
