POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports implementation of curriculum within the established guidelines.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
- Helps with the supervision of children, classroom, and all activities.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Cultivates positive relationships, maintains effective communication
with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA. - Help maintain program site and equipment.
- Maintains required program records / documentations.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
- Attends required abuse risk management training.
- Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Ability to work Monday – Friday 8am – 12pm
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law (if the state sets requirements. The YMCA should establish minimum qualification standards if the state has
no requirements). - At least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and assigned Redwoods trainings within 30 days of
hire date- Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor.
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
- Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
- Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
program activities. - Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
