Job Summary
The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and creative School Age Coordinator to join our Youth Development team. This position supports the daily operation of our school-age/after-school program and helps create a safe, engaging, and positive environment where children can learn, grow, and have fun.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with children ages 5–12, is organized and dependable, communicates well with families and staff, and can confidently take the lead in a busy program environment.
What You’ll Do
- Help coordinate the daily operation of the YMCA's school-age/after-school program, including programming on school days, no-school days, and school vacation weeks.
- Provide active supervision of children and maintain a safe, positive, and engaging environment.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities including educational enrichment, STEM, arts and crafts, physical activities, games, and other interest-based programming.
- Responsible for staff scheduling, daily assignments, and coverage to ensure appropriate supervision and program quality.
- Provide guidance, support, and ongoing feedback to program staff and volunteers.
- Assist with staff training and ensure staff follow YMCA policies, procedures, and program expectations.
- Maintain accurate attendance, sign-in/sign-out records, rosters, emergency information, and other required program documentation.
- Maintain required licensing, training, incident, behavioral, and other program records.
- Communicate professionally and consistently with children, families, staff, schools, and YMCA leadership.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
- Monitor and maintain program equipment and supplies.
- Use positive behavior guidance and discipline techniques to help children develop appropriate social and behavioral skills.
- Follow all YMCA policies and procedures related to child safety, supervision, boundaries, abuse prevention, and mandated reporting.
- Recognize and report suspicious or inappropriate behavior and policy violations in accordance with YMCA procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow YMCA emergency procedures.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Support YMCA special events, family events, open houses, and other activities as needed.
Schedule & Position Details
This is a part-time, school-year position supporting the YMCA's School Age/After-School Program, with the potential to transition into a year-round position supporting the YMCA's Summer Day Camp program.
The position will generally work during the after-school hours, Monday through Friday, approximately 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with additional hours required for full-day programming on no-school days and school vacation weeks.
The School Age Coordinator will be expected to begin approximately two weeks prior to the start of the school year to assist with program preparation, staff preparation, training, and classroom/program setup, and continue approximately one week after the school year ends to assist with program wrap-up and preparation for the next program year.
Specific hours will be established based on program needs and school schedules.
Pay: $17.75 - $19.00 per hour
