GENERAL FUNCTION:
Responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the swim team. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating swimmers, and instructing swimmers in meet strategies and techniques. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by supervisor.
- Coach swimmers to improve skills, monitor swimmers during competition and practices, keep the head coach informed of swimmer performances.
- Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
- Model good sportsmanship through conduct towards swimmers, officials, members and volunteers.
- Maintain the equipment room in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
- Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to swimmers as directed by the Head Coach.
- Assist the head coach with submitting a list of award recipients at the end of the season.
- Participate in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and swim meets.
- Perform support tasks such as maintaining and distributing eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other records.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Assistant Aquatic Director, Aquatic Director or other appropriate administrator.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Maintain certifications requirements for Swim Coaches.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and on deck areas.
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to see clearly up to 50 feet.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, Basic Life Support.
- Certification Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent certification.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA and American Red Cross standards.
- Must possess basic knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of competitive swimming.
- Basic computer skills.
- Redwood Certifications
- Certification Child Protection Training including Mandated Reporter
