POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Resident Camp Unit Leader aids in supervising and effectively leading a group of campers in daily camp activities. Resident Camp Unit Leaders provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and are actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Evaluates and mentors Cabin staff
- Plans and directs all unit activities.
- Ensures camper and staff safety during summer program
- Supervises unit activities and cabin staff that they meet State, ACA and YMCA ratios and regulations.
- Supervises Cabin Acts.
- Assists Program Director in the planning and implementation of evening programs.
- Assists Program director with scheduling of all camp programs
- Assists in staff training
- Attends morning support staff meetings
- Works a table at check in and check out
- Works one hold-over weekend
- Develop/Supervise Unit Clean-up schedule/all camp clean up
- Does a daily cabin inspection
- Deals with second step of camper discipline-homesick problems
- Writes evaluations on each unit staff member each session
- Assists in camp night supervision (CQ)
- Any other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience working with children.
- Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Completion of required trainings.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
