POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Membership Director, the Ambassador will serve as a safeguard presence within YMCA of Greater Hartford by assisting and serving all employees, members, and vendors to create a safe and secure environment. The Ambassador will oversee and monitor the building to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules.
The Ambassador greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Hartford is conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Interact in a positive manner with employees, members and vendors; meet, greet and act as a liaison to visitors and members until they meet their intended host.
Responds to emergency situations.
Promote the YMCA of Greater Hartford's Vision, Mission and Values.
Giving full attention to what members are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and choose the most appropriate one.
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
Being aware of member's reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance exceeding customer expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with customers, staff, and host agencies.
The ability to walk long distances or stand for extended periods of time.
The ability to work efficiently and efficiently under time restraint.
Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and customers.
To be an active participant in the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.
Any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in adapting to constantly changing situations.
The candidate must be able to make independent decisions and work with a large staff.
Must present a professional image and possess excellent written and oral skills.
Ability to work in and resolve conflict situations.
CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
- Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. aggressive behavior).
- Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations
- Ability to be flexible and willing to adjust to change.
- Ability to lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships.
- Ability to work in all elements (i.e. outside in all weather)
- Ability to use hands, fingers, and arms as well as be able to speak and hear.
- They should have good physical and mental health and have the energy and emotional stability necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Salary : $40,000 - $70,000
