What are the responsibilities and job description for the Oral Communications and Drama Teacher position at Yerger Middle School?
The Oral Communications and Drama Teacher for grades 7–12 is responsible for teaching students effective communication, public speaking, and drama skills. The teacher will plan engaging lessons, lead classroom performances and presentations, support student creativity and confidence, and maintain a positive learning environment. Duties may also include sponsoring drama-related activities and collaborating with staff, students, and parents to support student success.
Primary Responsibilities
- Organize and direct classroom performances, plays, speeches, debates, and other presentations.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and confidence..
- Maintain classroom management and establish clear expectations for student behavior and participation.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to support student success.
- Sponsor or assist with extracurricular activities such as drama club, speech competitions, or school productions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Communications, Theater, or Drama.
- Valid Arkansas teaching license with appropriate 7–12 certification or licensure requirements.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Experience in theater production, public speaking, or performance-based instruction preferred.
