The Residence provides a framework which supports individuals with psychiatric illness to face and navigate their way through the developmental challenges of emerging adulthood. The Residence is an environment where unique challenges of the emerging adult population are allowed to play out in a supported manner. Core Competence Staff (CCS) are on-site at The Residence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Position Summary:
Working together in “real time, real-life relationships”, CCS interacts with the Residents to provide assistance in essential areas of living. These areas of living include the development of self-agency, guidance toward making adaptive choices, self-structuring daily organization and biorhythm behaviors, effective communication within interpersonal relationships, and emotion regulation through self-soothing and emotionally supportive relationships.
Essential Duties:
o Provide structured support, guidance, and skills training in any household or life activity, such as grocery shopping, housekeeping, homework, or budgeting.
o Complete urinalysis, blood alcohol content, weights, and vitals.
o Observe self-administrated medications, enter notes into Medication Observation Record (MOR), and support residents with packing weekly medicets.
o Maintain an organized shift report in the EMR that provides concise information regarding residents’ problematic behaviors, progress, participation, and behaviors.
o Work with residents and colleagues to maintain the common areas and their rooms for tours, new admissions, and move out transitions in model condition.
o Encourage mobilization of skills being acquired in treatment during daily activities, Community meals, Apartment, Residence meetings, and CCS led activities.
o Collaborate with professional staff, occupational therapists, and program leadership.
o Attend required training, meetings, and supervised sessions.
o Maintain professional boundaries with the Residents and staff.
Required Skills
o Ability to navigate sensitive topics and resident behaviors with patience, empathy, and consistency.
o Remain calm and model appropriate emotional regulation in high stress or crisis situations.
o Ability to communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally with residents and professional staff.
o Accurately record residents’ verbal communication, behaviors, and interactions using clear, objective language.
o Willingness to collaborate as a part of multidisciplinary team.
