YEI Engineers, Inc. is a well-established consulting engineering firm seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to
join our Oakland office. Our firm has provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services
to public and private sector clients for over 50 years.
Role Description
Under the guidance of a Principal Engineer, you will:
- Prepare engineering documents and perform hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems, including sprinkler and wet standpipe systems
- Conduct life safety code analysis and design fire suppression systems for industrial and commercial projects
- Develop AutoCAD and/or Revit drawings and technical specifications
- Coordinate fire protection designs with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural)
- Assist with field investigations during design and construction phases
- Prepare cost estimates and project specifications
- Review vendor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with design intent and applicable codes
- Perform engineering calculations and ensure overall code compliance
- Support project schedules and design milestones through coordination with internal teams
- Provide technical support to design staff and assist with related engineering tasks as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited U.S. institution (fire protection emphasis preferred)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit MEP preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Familiarity with applicable building codes and NFPA standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, production environment
- Flexibility and adaptability to support a variety of engineering tasks in a small firm setting
- Ability to obtain and maintain Federal and State security clearance
- U.S. citizenship required
Preferred License/Certifications
- P.E. (Professional Engineer) License
- E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) Certification
- LEED AP® Building Design Construction credential
