School Social Worker Counselor - School Superintendent (Countywide)

Clinicians with license as a Professional Counselor (LPC), licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), School Social Worker, or School Counselor certification from the Arizona Department of Education are encouraged to apply.  


Within the Yavapai County school system, evaluates student problems and provides individual and group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment to support school success.

  • Counsels with students in individual or group settings in assigned schools based on treatment plan goals.
  • Implements related service counseling per eligible special education students’ Individualized Education Plan
  • Contributes expertise in emotional and behavior change to the special education team and identifies and evaluates students with disabilities and special needs.
  • Evaluates student to determine need for counseling services through the use of case history, interview, and observation. Develops treatment plan for targeted behavior change.
  • Provides other services as requested by administrators and teachers in assigned schools.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education: 
Master’s degree in Social Work or closely related field.

 

Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in social work or counseling working with children and families. An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-per-year basis. 

Additional Requirements:

Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Must possess appropriate licensure through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners to perform required duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
 Knowledge of:

  • Community resources.
  • Principles and methods of social work.
  • Techniques of casework methods and report writing.
  • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Research techniques and report writing.
  • Current Microsoft Office software.
  • Filing and recordkeeping.

  • Social work.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Organization and adherence to detail.

Ability to:
  • Work with students, teachers, administrators, and parents with diverse backgrounds.
  • Deliver counseling interventions that may include behavior management, decision-making, problem solving, goal setting, self-esteem, substance abuse issues, IEP driven special education counseling, and any other issue of concern.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records.
  • Demonstrate respect for the culture, values, lifestyles, and emotional and spiritual values while protecting individual rights, privacy and confidentiality.
  • Function effectively and autonomously, demonstrating appropriate professional judgment, ethics, and skills in the provision of professional services.
  • Maintain professional qualifications through ongoing training and education.
  • Provide crisis intervention services, when requested, throughout Yavapai County schools.
  • Collaborate and make referrals when indicated.
  • Utilize a county vehicle to travel to assigned schools and job-related events.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.  
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, victims of crime, witnesses, and the general public.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
 
Work Environment:
 The work environment is associated with an office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
