Position: Civil Sitework Estimator

Primary Function:
The Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings to ensure all aspects of a project are accurately accounted for. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy civil work, including excavation, asphalt, and concrete, and will demonstrate resourcefulness in identifying cost-effective solutions and opportunities for value engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Bid Administration
- Prepare and maintain project plan documentation and subcontractor communications.
- Solicit, manage, and analyze subcontractor and vendor bids.
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages and ensure complete bid coverage.
- Submit all bids and budgets by deadlines without exception.
Project Knowledge
- Thoroughly review bid requirements and drawings.
- Develop RFIs, clarifications, and ensure complete trade coverage.
- Perform bid-day analysis and scope reviews.
- Identify and implement value-engineering opportunities.
Project Turnover
- Translate budgets into Viewpoint software and coordinate handoff to project management.
- Review drawings, cost reports, and outstanding sub/vendor awards.
- Complete project kick-off documentation to ensure compliance.
Subcontractor Management
- Seek, qualify, and manage subcontractors according to company standards.
- Award subcontracts and release materials in a timely manner.
- Communicate project schedules and expectations clearly to all parties.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of heavy highway and civil construction practices.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Viewpoint, and HCSS Heavy Bid/Heavy Job.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines consistently.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD and Carlson takeoff software.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management,
OR 8–12 years of relevant heavy highway or airport construction estimating experience.
