Job Description:

Operate medical laboratory to support the base clinic and Ascension Island as covered under a mutual aid agreement when requested during Clinic hours and after hours as needed for medical emergencies requiring laboratory support. Manage and maintain all medical records per government specifications and standards.

Qualifications:

Able to maintain/obtain DOD Clinic Laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP) certification with CAP or COLA accredited (or another accreditation approved by CLIP) and maintain both the accreditation and CLIP certification. Demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to work in teams. CLT/MLT Certification Required (certification by ASCP is gold standard for medical laboratory). Minimum 3 years of experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform medical analysis in support of Clinic and Ascencion Island.
• Prepare samples for analysis,
• Use equipment to locate microorganisms,
• Monitor tests and procedures,
• Analyze the chemical content of fluids and document,
• Match blood for transfusions,
• Test for drug levels in the blood.
• Blood Alcohol Content or Breathalyzer tests to support fit for duty determination and administrative requirements.
• Testing capability will comply with Ascencion Island Laboratory Menu consisting of general blood chemistry tests, hematology, screening for current of past infections, and blood bank tests.
• Perform “Trust Agent” roles for random drug testing for Military and Base personnel as required. (Off island processing.)
• Ensure the collection and handling of samples are within AFI and AFM requirements/standards.
• Maintain all test records.
• Coordinate clinic work schedule with the Base Commander to set routine AAAF Clinic and Laboratory hours.
• Support for after hours on call emergency medical lab services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
