Responsibilities
• Demonstrate expertise in airbag module development and testing – “best practice” designs, legal validation requirements, North American customer standards, current industry trends, and our competitors’ technology.
• Lead the design, validation, and release of airbag systems using the YF product development process.
• Ensures documents, processes and procedures are managed and maintained using all YFSS standards and systems (YFiOS, PMP, Lean, CPP, CMP, EPIC, BEP, etc.)
• Understand the YF customers’ engineering organization and build relationships with the key engineering and technology “decision makers”.
• Inform customer engineering and YF leadership of significant launch, production or timing related issues (“no surprises”).
• Be the single point of customer contact on your programs.
• Work with Program Management to ensure engineering resources and budget goals are met from award through SOP.
• Successfully fulfill people leadership and people development responsibilities, including providing mentorship and support of the international “back office” team; succession planning; resource planning, etc.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
• Any and all other duties assigned by your Manager.
Education:
• Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s Degree Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or similar)
• Preferred: Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or similar)
• Chinese and/or Spanish language skills are a “plus” but not necessary.
• PMP training or Program Management experience desired
Work Experience and Skills Required:
• 7 years’ experience in the automotive industry, including at least two successful product launches – preferably with North American OEMs.
• Experience in all Airbags (Driver, Passenger, Side, Curtain, Knee) and Steering Wheel Design preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards, product safety, compliance and regulatory requirements related to automotive safety.
• Experience leading programs and teams with full engineering responsibility.
• Airbag module testing and performance analysis experience.
• Knowledge of plastic part design for injection molding.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously through excellent communication and strategic time management skills.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office software suite, with a focus on Excel programming.
• Knowledge of Injection Mold Tooling (gates, parting lines, action, etc.) as it relates to part design.
• Plastic resin and materials selection knowledge as related to airbag modules and steering wheel components.
• Ability to develop component and sub-assembly GD&T tolerancing and tolerance stack-up studies in support of manufacturing & craftsmanship goals.
• Knowledge of leather- and PUR wrapping processes and design limitations for steering wheels and driver airbags.
• Experience and/or understanding in using CAE as a design and product optimization tool.
• Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner in a team environment. Identify and address issues in a direct, “data driven” manner.
• Self-motivated and enthusiastic; “coaching” leadership style.
• Available as needed for domestic and international travel, up to 25%.
