What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Service Technician position at Yale Appliance and Careers?
JUNIOR APPLIANCE REPAIR TECHNICIAN ~ Paid Training & Career Growth
Start your career in Appliance Repair with Yale Appliance!
We're hiring both entry-level and experienced Appliance Repair Technicians. Whether you're new to the trade or already skilled, this is your chance to start a stable, rewarding career in a hands-on, problem-solving, and technology-driven trade with a company that values its employees and supports their growth every step of the way.
WHY APPLIANCE REPAIR?
- A growing industry that’s no longer taught in schools.
- The average Massachusetts home has 5 appliances, but the state has only about 660 trained Appliance Repair Technicians.
- That's a huge demand with very few people who can do the work.
Bring your background in HVAC/R, electrical, electronics, or plumbing, and we’ll train you to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair home appliances.
PAID TRAINING PROGRAM ~ LEARN THE TRADE THE RIGHT WAY
We'll set you up to succeed with a paid, structured training program designed to prepare you to confidently and successfully work on your own (no unpaid apprenticeship required).
Training includes:
- 3 months of training at our new, state-of-the-art Training Center.
- Classroom and computer-based learning.
- Hands-on practice in our workshop.
- 1 month shadowing an experienced Technician on the road, gaining real-world experience on service calls, diagnostics, and customer interaction.
- Training in customer communication and conflict resolution.
- Ongoing mentorship, resources, and support.
Our program is designed to give you the skills and confidence to go out on your own after training.

- Experienced Technicians (3 years): up to $40.00 per hour.
- Paid from Day 1.
- Van and fuel card provided right away (your commuting costs are covered even during training).
- Optional Saturday overtime when available, but no on-call and no nights.
- 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 7:30am start (in the service business, your end times vary based on route and your time management skills).
WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED
This role is rewarding but it's a lot of work and you'll be challenged every day. You’ll need to be:
- Mechanically inclined and like fixing things.
- Self-motivated with strong time management skills.
- Comfortable working independently and driving ~3 hours daily.
- Professional in both appearance and communication with customers.
- Physically able to lift, maneuver, and work with appliances and tools.
- Ready to "go back to school" for the next 3 months.
- The desire to learn something new, ask questions, and communicate.
- Fixing appliances while alone in a customer’s home is tough and not for everyone.
If you like challenges and problem-solving, being hands-on, and building real skills, you’ll thrive here.
