What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (Per Diem/Floater) - Yorktown Heights position at YAI - Seeing Beyond Disability?
Looking for flexible work that's meaningful, rewarding, and fits your schedule?
Join YAI, an organization recognized as one of New York's Best Places to Work and nationally respected for innovation in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
We’re looking for compassionate and reliable individuals to become part of the team supporting our Yorktown Heights residential program. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) support adults with I/DD by helping them build independence, participate in their communities, develop meaningful relationships, and achieve their personal goals. Our Yorktown residential program is home to a close-knit group of active young men who bring energy, personality, and a sense of fun to their home. These individuals enjoy spending time together, connecting with staff, and being part of their community.
You’ll engage in their favorite routines and activities such as grabbing coffee, shopping at the mall, checking out the latest deals at GameStop, listening to music, trying new restaurants, and taking walks on local trails. Not only will you participate in these experiences, but we encourage you to share your own interests and hobbies to help them create new ones.
The DSP role goes beyond activities. You'll support these individuals in all aspects of daily life, including teaching independent living skills, assisting with personal care and daily routines, preparing meals, documenting progress, and helping each person work toward goals outlined in their individualized support plan. Every interaction is an opportunity to promote dignity, choice, and independence.
The Per Diem/Floater position is ideal for those looking for a second job, returning to the workforce, exploring a new career path, or balancing school or family responsibilities. If you're dependable, have a strong work ethic, and bring experience - or simply a willingness to learn - we'd love to hear from you.
