Position Overview & Primary Objectives:
Yahara is a company that provides clients custom software solutions primarily in the Life Science and Transportation domain. The Business Analyst I position is responsible for requirements gathering and elicitation under the guidance and direction of a Senior Business Analyst. The Business Analyst 1 will work on one or more small to mid-size projects for one or more clients at any given point of time. Projects include, but are not limited to
- Development of novel software system
- Adding new business workflows to existing systems
- Integration between existing products and non-software solutions
This position requires continuous collaboration with the project technical team, sponsor, and project manager.
Duties include, but are not limited to
- Identifying client goals and needs
- Problem solving independently and as a group
- Providing feature recommendations
- Designing prototypes for user interfaces and user experience
- Serving as liaison between the technical team and the client
- Collaborating with various teams within the organization and the client
- Be instrumental in moving the project forward
Strong written and verbal skills are required as well as exceptional interpersonal skills to interview, reflect, and build trust with the client. A background in a laboratory setting is ideal. The BA candidate drives the successful implementation of the product roadmap by steering the product development and adoption.
Responsibilities
- Conducting requirements-gathering sessions with numerous stakeholders for what the future-state solution should provide.
- Analyzing business workflows and assessing how automated systems can be leveraged to implement those.
- Documenting accurate notes and communicating decisions, action items and next steps for requirements gathering to team members after meetings.
- Organizing the requirements into feature-sets and prioritizing them into ‘mandatory’ versus ‘desired’ buckets.
- Collaborate with the Yahara Technical Lead for solution foothold and initial approach.
- Converting requirements and solution design into stories and tasks for estimation, development, and testing.
- Tracking requirements as they progress through development activities and keep inventory of remaining requirements to implement.
- Utilization of rapid prototyping tools such as JustinMind, Sketch, or Zephyr to facilitate development and maximize usability of application features.
- Utilization of requirements analysis tools such as flow charts, sequence diagrams, entity relationship diagrams etc.
- Working as liaison between Yahara and its clients to gather testing feedback and prioritizing bug fixes.
- Be able to lead scrum cadences such as stand ups, backlog grooming and estimation, sprint planning and sprint close demos.
- Staying up to date and incorporating learnings from IIBA, or other industry standard entities, for software development best practices.
- Supporting Business Analysis team leadership in Yahara’s Business Analysis Practice development efforts.
- Working in collaboration with project coordinators for requirements gathering and story definition.
Required Job Qualifications:
- 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Business or a field related to STEM or equivalent work experience.
- 1-2 years of experience working on IT applications in a Business Analyst role or demonstratable experience with IT application requirements gathering and documentation via application solution development, design, documentation or testing.
- Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Exposure to concepts related to user interface or user experience.
- Interest in exploring how IT systems, processes or technology can improve user experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally, as well as through written word and formal presentations.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience using computers for a variety of tasks including competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative and ownership; proactively works to resolve issues.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and create lasting relationships. Must have experience working on a team.
- Demonstrated ability to escalate and work through roadblocks.
- Able to learn new technology well enough to communicate with technology experts.
