Job Title: 2023-2024 School Year Preschool Teacher
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (35-40 Hours Weekly)
Status: Full-time M-F
Reports to: Education Director Revision Date: 03/2023
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Positively impacts the community though youth engagement and education while strengthening the outward reputation of the good work done at the Y.
This position will provide care and supervision of children daily while working alongside other teaching staff to further the development of every child in the program. Will assist in planning and preparing lesson plans and materials. May assist in planning and executing special events. Will be expected to maintain strong family connections and attend monthly Professional Development and staff meetings.
Essential Functions:
o Effective communication with children, families, and members.
o Able to handle multiple responsibilities in the childcare setting reliably and effectively.
o Provide safe and secure setting for children and provide continuous supervision at all times.
o Observe and monitor children’s play activities.
o Treat children and staff with respect.
o Keep room, toys, and equipment clean and organized.
o Be enthusiastic! Maintain and project a positive attitude at all times.
o Remain in your area of responsibility at all times. If you have to leave, notify your co-workers, supervisor, or front desk staff for support.
o Dress appropriately for interactions with children and families.
o Engage with children and participate in activities.
o Attend and participate in professional development.
o Aid in conferences as directed by the lead teacher.
o Lead small group lessons.
o Communicate with Program Director any concerns, problems, or suggestions regarding children and the program.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
1. Strong relationship building skills
2. Minimum age requirement, 18 years of age.
3. High school graduate or GED
4. At least 2 years’ experience working with children and families
5. Excellent skills in teamwork and problem-solving
6. Transportation must be reliable for daily use.
7. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
