They will translate the ideas of engineers into precise visual representations, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The Role
The Mechanical Designer, also known as a drafting technician, will specializes in creating detailed technical drawings and plans to use in design and manufacturing. They will translate the ideas of engineers into precise visual representations, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software. They must have a keen eye for detail, strong spatial understanding, and familiarity with design standards and building codes to produce accurate and functional designs.
Responsibilities
Drafting and Design
- 3D model creation (Creo preferred).
- Creating accurate technical drawings using Creo software.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
- Collaborating with engineers to develop detailed designs.
- Organizing and maintaining project documents, including drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Updating and revising drawings as needed.
- Ensuring proper version control and document tracking.
- Process engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives.
- Part creation into ERP systems.
- Creation of bills of materials.
- Ensuring proper version control and document tracking.
- Conducting thorough reviews of drawings for accuracy and completeness
- Identifying and resolving any discrepancies or errors
- Following company and industry standards for quality assurance
- Communicating effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders
- Attending meetings and providing updates on project progress
- Responding to requests for information and making revisions based on feedback
- Coordinating with other drafters, designers, and engineers to ensure consistency and accuracy in project drawings
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to update models and drawings.
- Working closely with project managers to meet deadlines and adhere to project timelines
- Assisting with project planning and scheduling
- Staying up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in drafting technology
- Participating in training and professional development opportunities
- Maintaining a strong understanding of drafting principles and techniques.
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a specialized area, such as drafting or Engineering Technology or a related field with at least 2 years’ experience or equivalent work experience that provides exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design software, such as Creo.
- Ability to produce precise and accurate drawings.
- Strong understanding of geometry and algebra to calculate dimensions and allowances.
- Good communication abilities to understand and follow instructions from engineers.
- The capacity to convert ideas into technical drawings.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
- Poise, good judgement, and confidence to represent the company.
- Ensures compliance with organization and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Quality Systems, ISO-9000 desirable.
