Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Machine Shop Manager to oversee our machine shop operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of machining processes, ensuring that production runs smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a hands-on approach, with the ability to manage both personnel and equipment while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, organization and cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
- Manage a team of machinists, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and productivity.
- Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, press brake machines, and other equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the workplace.
- Conduct regular inspections of machinery and tools to maintain operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret blueprints and specifications for production projects.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow and reduce waste.
- Monitor inventory levels of materials and tools, coordinating with suppliers as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of production metrics, quality control checks, and employee performance.
Skills
- Proficient in blueprint reading and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Experience with machining processes, fabrication techniques, and assembly operations.
- Knowledgeable/familiar in CNC programming, CAM programming, and operation of CNC milling machines and CNC lathes.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Competent in using hand tools, power tools, and tooling setups for various machining tasks.
- Understanding of quality control processes to ensure product specifications are met consistently.
- Previous warehouse experience is advantageous for managing material flow effectively.
