Machine Shop Manager

Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Machine Shop Manager to oversee our machine shop operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of machining processes, ensuring that production runs smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a hands-on approach, with the ability to manage both personnel and equipment while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, organization and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
• Manage a team of machinists, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and productivity.
• Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, press brake machines, and other equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the workplace.
• Conduct regular inspections of machinery and tools to maintain operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret blueprints and specifications for production projects.
• Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow and reduce waste.
• Monitor inventory levels of materials and tools, coordinating with suppliers as necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of production metrics, quality control checks, and employee performance.

Skills

• Proficient in blueprint reading and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Experience with machining processes, fabrication techniques, and assembly operations.
• Knowledgeable/familiar in CNC programming, CAM programming, and operation of CNC milling machines and CNC lathes.
• Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
• Competent in using hand tools, power tools, and tooling setups for various machining tasks.
• Understanding of quality control processes to ensure product specifications are met consistently.
• Previous warehouse experience is advantageous for managing material flow effectively.
