Job Summary
The Server Engineer will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of our client’s and our own server and storage infrastructure, physical and virtual. This role requires close collaboration with cloud, network and telecom engineers in support of larger infrastructure projects as part of the infrastructure team. Engineers are expected to provide Level 3 specialized support and are expected to assist with and perform other duties as specified, as the need arises and as time allows.
Key Responsibilities
This is a Hybrid role, and candidates MUST be able to travel 1-2 days per week to office locations within Xtensys’ customer base.
Physical Nature of the Job
Candidates may be asked to team-lift heavy equipment up to 50 lbs. per person, climb ladders, reach overhead and access areas that are inaccessible by elevator. This is usually related to but not limited to racking and unracking servers in equipment racks. Reasonable accommodation / exceptions can be made for otherwise qualified candidates with physical limitations.

Key Responsibilities
- Engineers are expected to participate in On-Call rotations and be hybrid in nature, and able to travel within reasonable ranges to physical locations unless they are specifically hired as a fully remote resource. Those not explicitly remote may be infrequently required to travel further distances to conferences or for business trips, meet and greets, and site assessments.
- Systems Engineering and Design: Systems engineers are expected to be able to assess project requirements, design new servers and storage solutions or to adapt or implement existing solutions to new business needs or problems within the business or client’s business.
- Server and Storage Installation and Configuration: Setting up and configuring new servers and storage, including but not limited to installing operating systems, software applications, network services, and configuring networked storage and Storage Area Networks. Experience with Dell EMC Fabrics and Fiber Channel preferred. Windows and VMware iSCSI knowledge is preferred.
- Support Maintenance and Monitoring: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as software updates, patches, and monitor server performance and resource utilization. Maintain automated monitoring systems.
- User Account Management: Create and managing user accounts, groups, and access permissions to ensure appropriate access to server resources. Configuring systems to authenticate to central identity platforms such as Active Directory, LDAP, RADIUS, Entra ID (SAML/OAUTH)
- Security Management: Support the implementation of security measures as prescribed by our cybersecurity team to protect servers from unauthorized access, data breaches, malware, and other security threats. Participate in regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Documentation: Document server configurations, procedures, and changes to ensure accurate records and facilitate knowledge sharing within the team. Maintain a knowledgebase.
- Troubleshooting: Be able to diagnose and resolve complex server-related issues. Candidate should be comfortable managing the escalation of problems to senior team members or vendor support.
- Engineers may be responsible for additional duties as assigned. This may include administrative tasks, physical labor related to information technology such as physically lifting and racking hardware, pulling and making cables, cleaning IT related work or break areas and working on a ladder. Especially capable candidates may be asked to climb, crawl, lift and haul within reasonable limits. Candidates may be expected to serve as project managers for small or internal projects where a dedicated project manager is not justifiable or available.
- Must have relevant work experience or demonstrated knowledge in designing and maintaining enterprise server and storage environments.
- Strong ability to problem-solve, design and engineer new solutions.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- A background in customer service, account management or MSP-related experience is preferred.
- Specific Knowledge in Healthcare IT, PowerShell, VMware, Hyper-V, Fiber Channel Storage technologies preferred.
- A degree or certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
