About the Role
We are seeking a III-V Expert to drive new photonic components from feasibility to high-volume production. In this role, you will own the productization of III-V components manufactured at external vendors, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and maturity requirements for deployment in advanced photonic modules and systems.
You will work cross-functionally with R&D, reliability, and module engineering teams, while also managing technical engagement with suppliers to ensure robust manufacturability, quality, and scalability. This is a highly impactful role that directly influences product readiness, supplier capability, and overall time-to-market.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product lifecycle of III-V components, from feasibility through qualification and volume ramp.
- Define product specifications and acceptance criteria in collaboration with design and system teams.
- Work with external vendors to ensure parts meet electrical, optical, and reliability requirements.
- Partner with suppliers to develop, review, and improve process flows for manufacturability and yield.
- Conduct performance and reliability evaluations, driving root cause analysis of failures and variability.
- Establish test methodologies and qualification plans aligned with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Drive maturity assessments and readiness reviews with suppliers to ensure smooth transition into volume production.
- Collaborate with supply chain, reliability, and manufacturing teams to resolve technical and logistical issues.
- Provide technical leadership in supplier discussions, audits, and joint development activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Photonics, or related field.
- 10 years of experience in lasers, SOAs, or photonic component engineering.
- Strong knowledge of laser/SOA design principles, performance metrics, and reliability mechanisms.
- Experience with product qualification, reliability testing, and failure analysis.
- Proven ability to work with external suppliers on process development, yield improvement, and quality control.
- Strong data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, JMP, or similar).
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with laser and SOA characterization (LIV, spectral, noise, and reliability testing).
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes (epi growth, etch, coating, facet passivation, packaging).
- Familiarity with industry reliability standards (Telcordia, GR-468, etc.).
- Experience in volume manufacturing and supplier quality management.
