Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Design Engineer to join our team. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative mechanical systems, structures, hulls, and other components for our Xpress product line. You will work closely with our team of engineers and specialists to ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Engineering manager, design and develop products using our engineering roadmap and stakeholder input to follow an idea from conceptual design all the way to embodiment design (Cradle-to-grave design projects).
- Design and develop mechanical/electrical systems and components using SolidWorks software.
- Responsible for generating, developing, and presenting original and unique mechanical design ideas in response to marketing-based project development goals.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify new design opportunities and improve existing products.
- Create detailed drawings and specifications for manufacturing and assembly on current and future projects.
- Conduct testing and validation of designs to ensure that they meet ISO, Coast Guard, ABYC, and NMMA performance and safety standards.
- Interacts and provides technical support to manufacturing.
- Identify existing product improvements.
- Creates project documentation including Bill of Materials, spare parts lists, operation and maintenance manuals, assembly procedures and check sheets, repair procedures, management reports, and project schedules if needed.
- Assists in the development of and participates in the implementation of continuous improvement projects.
- Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to analyze product and process, identify improvement opportunities, implement plans for enhancement and ensure improvements are sustained.
- Calculate dimensions, allowances, and specifications per standard procedures or general design knowledge of shop capabilities when standard procedures do not exist.
- Performs other engineering-related tasks as required by engineering manager.
Qualifications:
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong communication, problem solving, planning and organizing required.
- Ability to communicate technical aspects to a nontechnical audience required.
- Knowledge of engineering and technical principles required.
- Ability to participate in team projects and meetings required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
- Familiarity with standard fabrication procedures preferred.
- Previous experience in aluminum hull, structure, and fabrication design preferred.
- Lean and Six Sigma experience preferred.
- In depth understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- 5 years’ experience with 3D software (SolidWorks/Catia/ProE/Inventor/UG/AutoCAD).
- The ability and willingness to take independent action and complete job tasks with minimal instruction.
- Light CNC knowledge for press brakes, 3D printers, plasma cutter, and tube benders would be preferred.
- FEA, CFD, and other computational analysis experience preferred.
- Complete project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule.

Conditions and Equipment:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited University.
- Works with AutoCAD and MS Office products.
- Normal office conditions apply.
