What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager - Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning position at Xpedite Talent Acquisition?
Healthcare Project Manager (Mechanical / MEP)
McParlane & Associates | Orange County or San Diego, CA
Full-Time | Senior Leadership Level
Salary Range: $175,000 annually (flexible based on experience)
Not for the average engineer. For the builder who leads from the front.
McParlane & Associates is looking for a Healthcare Project Manager (Mechanical / MEP) who can own high-stakes, high-visibility work without blinking. This is not a coordinator role. This is not a “keep the trains moving” role. This is a leadership seat for someone who can drive complex healthcare mechanical projects from concept through construction, elevate people around them, and deliver with precision when the margin for error is zero.
We want the kind of leader who thrives in environments where technical excellence, accountability, urgency, and trust all matter at once. Someone who can command a room, mentor a team, solve hard problems, and still keep the client confident, the project disciplined, and the standards sky-high.
At McParlane & Associates, we believe in high-performance teams, strong leadership, and delivering work that stands up under pressure.
What You’ll Own
You will lead and manage complex healthcare and commercial MEP projects with full accountability for design execution, client relationships, team leadership, schedule performance, and construction-phase success.
Core Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead multiple healthcare mechanical/MEP projects from kickoff through construction completion
- Set direction, create momentum, and hold teams accountable to scope, schedule, quality, and client expectations
- Own staffing plans, resource allocation, and project prioritization across concurrent workstreams
- Drive coordination across disciplines, consultants, clients, contractors, and owners
Client Leadership
- Serve as a senior-facing client partner, not just a project contact
- Lead meetings with clarity and authority
- Build long-term trust through responsiveness, technical credibility, and decisive execution
- Support proposals, scope development, and business development efforts
Technical Oversight
- Oversee design and engineering for healthcare and other commercial facilities
- Review system approaches, engineering studies, reports, and building analyses
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
- Guide technically sound, cost-conscious decisions, including ROM cost considerations
- Oversee construction administration activities including RFIs, field coordination, and issue resolution
Team Development
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers and project contributors
- Create a culture of ownership, sharp communication, and continuous improvement
- Delegate effectively without losing visibility or control
- Help build the kind of team that top performers want to join and stay with
Who You Are
You are a seasoned mechanical engineering leader with the experience and judgment to take ownership of critical projects and the presence to earn trust quickly.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 10 years of experience in a consulting engineering environment
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Deep experience in healthcare mechanical systems and complex commercial building projects
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems coordination
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects across all phases, including construction administration
- Experience preparing complete construction bid documents
- Proficiency with engineering design and calculation software
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit
- Experience evaluating construction costs and reviewing practical system options
- Proven success leading teams, mentoring engineers, and driving results in a collaborative environment
- LEED accreditation preferred
What Winning Looks Like
- Your projects are organized, proactive, and well-led
- Your clients trust you because you tell the truth, solve problems fast, and don’t miss details
- Your team gets better because you raise the bar and coach to it
- Your designs are smart, buildable, code-compliant, and aligned with project realities
- You don’t need to be chased for ownership—you naturally take it
