Role Summary:
The ARNP – Emergency Department provides advanced practice care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department with acute and urgent conditions. This role works in collaboration with emergency physicians, nursing, and ancillary staff to assess patients, order and interpret diagnostics, develop and implement treatment plans, perform appropriate procedures within scope, and support safe and timely patient disposition in a rural emergency setting.
Core Responsibilities:
* Perform focused and comprehensive assessments of patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a wide range of acute and urgent conditions.
* Develop differential diagnoses and order/interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory studies, ECGs, and imaging.
* Initiate and manage evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising/emergency physicians.
* Prescribe medications and non-pharmacologic therapies within Washington ARNP scope of practice and institutional policies.
* Perform common emergency department procedures appropriate to training and privileges (for example, wound closure, splinting, incision and drainage, basic emergency interventions).
* Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to support efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
* Document clinical encounters, orders, and treatment plans accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic medical record.
* Participate in quality, safety, and performance improvement activities related to emergency care and patient experience as requested.
Must-Have Qualifications:
* Active or eligible Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) licensure that meets Washington State requirements, including underlying RN licensure and national NP certification.
* Graduate degree in nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
* Minimum 3 years of recent clinical experience in an Emergency Department.
* Demonstrated competency managing undifferentiated emergency presentations and stabilizing acutely ill or injured patients in a fast-paced environment.
* Current national board certification as a nurse practitioner in a relevant population focus (for example, FNP, AGACNP, ENP or similar).
* Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
* Ability to work collaboratively with emergency physicians, nursing staff, and the broader interprofessional team.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience functioning specifically as an ARNP/NP in an Emergency Department, urgent care, or high-acuity acute care setting beyond the 3-year minimum.
* Experience in a rural, community, or critical access hospital environment.
* Proficiency with common emergency procedures (for example, laceration repair, incision and drainage, splinting, basic airway support).
* Additional certifications such as PALS and/or trauma-focused training (for example, ATLS coursework or similar).
* Experience participating in ED quality improvement, sepsis/stroke pathways, or throughput and performance initiatives.
