Role Description:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Addison, IL, responsible for leading the mechanical design and development of ruggedized charging products and related hardware. This role involves creating and reviewing detailed mechanical designs and CAD models, performing analysis and simulations, and guiding products from concept through prototyping, testing, and production release. The Senior Mechanical Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams—including electrical engineering, firmware, manufacturing, quality, and program management—to ensure that designs meet performance, reliability, and cost targets. Day-to-day responsibilities include driving design reviews, generating documentation and specifications, supporting design verification and validation testing, and resolving technical issues throughout the product lifecycle. The role also contributes to continuous improvement activities, evaluates new materials and technologies, and mentors less experienced engineers in best practices for ruggedized product design.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
- Responsible for mechanical parts selection taking into consideration obsolescence, design requirements, availability and cost.
- Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs in design reviews.
- Responsible for working closely with the tooling suppliers to ensure the parts are made as per the design specifications.
- Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Responsible for generation of Assembly drawings, work instructions, and bills of materials.
- Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner · Ensures the mechanical design output fits in with all other aspects of the design.
- Works closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacturability.
- Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the Engineering Manager and Project Management teams.
- Creation of technical reports and documentation as required for Military/Aerospace projects.
- Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards
- Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems to ensure that products conform to standards and customer requirements.
- Compile data and write reports/test procedures regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 of experience in mechanical design with electronic circuit technology assembly processes (analog, digital and/or high voltage design)
- Experience in design, repair and analysis of electronic systems including using plastic/silicon based products
- Solid mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with project scheduling tools and techniques is beneficial.
- Must have exposure to electromechanical engineering design principles and methodologies
- Must have experience designing military grade products that can meet the MIL-STD-810 requirements
