What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manual Machinist position at Xcel Hermetic Motor Rewinding INC.?
At Xcel we specialize in the re-manufacturing of hermetically sealed Freon filled 3 phase electric motors for chillers. A few of the brands we specialize in are Trane, Carrier, McQuay and York. We also clean, inspect, and repair impellers and seals. Most of this equipment is for use in processing plants or large AC equipment in buildings, hospitals, stadiums etc. We are looking for an experienced manual machinist to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Operate manual machining equipment such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines to produce high-precision metal parts according to detailed blueprints and technical drawings
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and specifications accurately, ensuring all dimensions and tolerances meet quality standards
- Set up and calibrate machines including lathe, grinder, and other manual tools for optimal performance
- Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for quality control inspections
- Read and analyze engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), to determine machining requirements
- Perform basic math calculations necessary for machining tasks.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols; operate power tools and hand tools efficiently during setup and machining processes
- Assist in tooling selection, machine maintenance, and troubleshooting to minimize downtime
- Support assembly processes when required, including welding or fitting components together with precision
- Collaborate with team members on lean manufacturing initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Experience
- Proven experience as a Manual Machinist or similar role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of mechanical blueprint interpretation and precision measurement techniques
- Hands-on experience with machining tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and calipers
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings with GD&T specifications
- Mechanical knowledge of metals and plastics injection molding processes is advantageous
- Ability to operate measurement instruments like micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for quality assurance
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles to promote continuous improvement in production workflows
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail; ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced setting
