Job Summary: This is a dynamic and multifaceted role centered on the design and management of electric distribution projects for both new and existing customers. The position blends technical drafting expertise with project management and direct customer interaction, offering a unique combination of office-based design work and hands-on field assessments. Working under the direction of a supervisor and alongside project engineering and technical services staff, the individual in this role will be responsible for creating, updating, and revising sketches, working drawings, and contract documents, as well as preparing 2D and 3D models. From transformer sizing and underground cable routing to pole placement and bill of materials preparation, this role plays a critical part in delivering reliable electric distribution infrastructure. The work environment is collaborative and team-oriented, with a hybrid schedule that supports a healthy work-life balance. Responsibilities: - Design and manage electric distribution projects for new and existing customers from initiation through completion - Create, update, and revise sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using GIS software or manual drafting methods - Prepare 2D and 3D models to support project design and documentation - Conduct field assessments at residential, commercial, and construction sites to gather information necessary for system design - Perform transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and pole placement as part of distribution system design - Read and comprehend detailed customer requirements, data sheets, and supplier specifications - Prepare bills of material, project schedules, and supporting design documentation - Assist engineering personnel with formal drawing transmittals and construction issue resolution - Interact directly with customers to understand project needs and communicate design solutions - Check project management systems regularly for new customer contacts and project updates - Participate in weekly scheduling meetings and team touchpoints - Use personal vehicle for field visits, with mileage reimbursement provided Skills: - Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and team members - Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously - Basic understanding of electrical concepts, terminology, and engineering principles - Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints - Familiarity with drafting techniques and standard engineering practices - Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools, systems, and processes - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment - Problem-solving skills with a proactive and detail-oriented approach - Proficiency with standard office productivity software - Experience with GIS platforms or AutoCAD is a plus but not required - Background in electrical, utility, or related technical fields is a plus Experience: - Prior experience in electric utility, construction, or a related technical field is preferred but not required - Candidates from diverse professional backgrounds, including construction, customer service, or public safety, are encouraged to apply - Experience with GIS software or AutoCAD is advantageous Qualifications: - No specific degree is required; relevant experience and demonstrated aptitude will be considered in lieu of formal education - No certifications are required for this position This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive team where no two days are exactly alike.
