Advanced Step Apprentice/Journeyman Gas Technician - Fargo, ND

We anticipate the need for one or more Advanced Step Apprentice / Journeyman Gas Technician(s) to be located at our Fargo Service Center, Fargo ND. The starting rate of pay for this position is $52.25 per hour. An Apprentice will be coming in at 62.5% of the Journeyman rate as a 1st step, 68.75% for 2nd step, 75% for 3rd step, 81.25% for 4th step, 87.5% for 5th step or 93.75% for 6th step.

This position will be posted for 10 Working Days from July 10, 2026, to July 24, 2026.

Summary

Work as part of Gas construction, maintenance and operations crew, including work with gas services and mains, operate mechanical trenching/excavating equipment and related tools necessary to install gas mains and services. Plastic pipe fusion, service regulators, odorization, meter and regulation, tapping, operational surveys, customer priority work, fitting, knowledge and ability to respond to gas leak (inside and outside) investigation/emergencies, gas leak repair, cathodic protection, locating, meter reading, valve maintenance and material handling, district regulator maintenance, instrument calibration, meter and large regulator sizing/maintenance/installation.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (must meet driver qualification requirements as specified in FMCSR Parts 382 and 391).
• One or more years of Gas Construction and/or Gas service experience desired.
• One or more years of gas pipeline welding experience desired.
• Must be certified in plastic fusion per Xcel Energy requirements within 6 months of hire.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules.
• Journeyman-level requires 5 or more years of experience as a Gas Technician.
• Must possess a working knowledge and rebuild of all types of gas regulators, odorizers and SCADA controls
  
  

Desired: Technical degree in gas utility construction, experience in gas regulation and knowledge of gas appliances, experience in operating mechanical trenching/excavating equipment, and electronic locating and testing equipment.

Special Requirements

• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
• Direct customer contact experience is desirable.
• Position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Must live within a 20-mile radius of the service center within 6 months of hire.
• Subject to on-call duty on a rotating basis.

Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $32.66 to $52.25 per hour
