What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Processing Technician position at xBound Technologies?
Overview
The Data Processing Site Maintenance Technician is a hands-on, outdoor role responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment at a small water-cooled data processing site. This position works directly with data processing containers, WATER COOLING TOWERS, pumps, filtration systems, electrical components, HVAC systems, and other critical infrastructure required to keep the site operating efficiently.
Because the entire facility is outdoors—including all cooling towers and data containers—the technician must be able to work in extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and seasonal climate changes.
Responsibilities
1. Water Cooling Tower Operations & Maintenance (PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY)
- Perform daily visual inspections of all water cooling towers, basins, pumps, motors, and distribution lines.
- Conduct water chemistry testing, including:
- pH
- Conductivity
- Corrosion inhibitors
- Anti-scalant levels
- Microbiological treatments
- Add or replace inhibitor blocks and chemical treatments as needed to maintain tower health.
- Perform routine and seasonal cleaning, including debris removal, flushing lines, removing scale buildup, and inspecting for corrosion or leaks.
- Monitor tower performance during high heat loads to protect data processing equipment from overheating.
- Assist with pump maintenance, motor checks, belt replacements, hose repairs, and nozzle cleaning.
2. Data Processing Container Maintenance
- Support basic troubleshooting and maintenance inside data processing containers.
- Replace fans, power supplies, control boards, network cables, PDUs, and other general hardware.
- Monitor container temperature, airflow, and performance indicators.
- Identify and address alarms, overheating events, or equipment-level issues.
3. Electrical & HVAC Support
- Assist with diagnosing electrical issues such as breaker trips, loose connections, power imbalances, and PDU failures.
- Support HVAC components connected to the water-cooling system and container airflow.
- Safely work around high-voltage equipment following lock-out/tag-out procedures.
4. General Facility Maintenance
- Perform routine site upkeep such as repairing hoses and pipes, tightening fittings, clearing drainage areas, and lubricating mechanical components.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized workspaces around the cooling tower and containers.
- Assist contractors, engineers, and the site manager during repairs or system upgrades.
5. Monitoring & Reporting
- Log daily water chemistry readings, tower performance data, container issues, and maintenance activity.
- Immediately report abnormal temperatures, water loss, excessive scale, electrical issues, or performance drops.
- Assist with inventory tracking for water-tower chemicals, pumps, filters, and essential spare parts.
6. Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA regulations when working with chemicals, water systems, and high-voltage equipment.
- Use proper PPE including gloves, eye protection, respirators (when required), and fall-protection equipment.
- Identify and report safety hazards such as leaks, electrical risks, or unstable structures.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with WATER COOLING TOWERS (operation, water chemistry testing, cleaning, descaling, troubleshooting).
- Basic electrical knowledge and ability to safely handle circuits, breakers, and PDUs.
- Familiarity with HVAC components and heat-transfer principles.
- Ability to understand and maintain water pumps, valves, lines, and distribution systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong ability to troubleshoot equipment failures.
- Basic understanding of data processing or crypto mining containers (preferred but trainable).
- Reliable work ethic and ability to work independently.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Must be able to work outdoors year-round in extreme temperatures (heat, cold), wind, rain, and rapidly changing conditions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work in tight spaces.
- Comfortable working around moving mechanical equipment, chemicals, wet surfaces, and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods in an outdoor industrial yard.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data centers, water treatment, HVAC, industrial cooling, utilities, or crypto mining.
- Certifications in HVAC, electrical, water treatment, or industrial maintenance.
- Experience with PDUs, routers, or facility monitoring systems.
