Assistant Professor of Instruction, Field Coordinator (School of Education)

The School of Education at Xavier University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction position serving as Field Coordinator, beginning Fall 2026. This position reports to the director of the School of Education. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The position involves two primary areas of responsibility. The first is to coordinate field placements, field experiences, and student teaching placements across licensure programs, including collaboration with program directors, licensure personnel, accreditation personnel, field supervisors, students, and school partners. This position will coordinate clinical practice infrastructure, communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and support licensure and accreditation documentation. The second is to maintain, strengthen, and develop school and district partnerships that support high-quality clinical experiences, program visibility, and ongoing recruitment for the School of Education.

The position includes teaching 3-6 credits a semester in an area of expertise aligned with one or more programs in the School of Education.

The School of Education is part of Xavier University’s College of Health and Human Sciences (name effective July 1, 2026) and provides transformative, personalized learning that prepares undergraduate and graduate students for careers of service in education. Guided by Xavier’s Jesuit Catholic mission, the School of Education emphasizes academic excellence, ethics, advocacy, community partnerships, and a commitment to welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate major field experiences and student teaching placements across licensure programs. Arrange and coordinate student teacher placements and major field experiences at area schools and districts, including at Xavier’s Laboratory school, St. Peter Faber Academy. Communicate with students, program directors, school partners, field supervisors, and administrative staff to ensure placements are appropriate, timely, and aligned with program and licensure requirements.
  • Maintain placement documentation and ensure student readiness for field experiences.

Prepare and maintain documentation required by students, host schools, supervisors, and the School of Education. Monitor student completion of placement requirements, communicate with students regarding missing documentation, and collaborate with program directors and administrative staff to ensure requirements are met.

  • Develop and sustain school and district partnerships. Maintain and expand relationships with public, private, and parochial schools across the region. Serve as a key School of Education contact for principals, teachers, district leaders, and community partners. Initiate and support partnerships that strengthen field placement opportunities, clinical experiences, and long-term collaboration between Xavier and area schools.
  • Support licensure and accreditation processes connected to field experiences. Collaborate with program directors, licensure personnel, and accreditation personnel to ensure that field experiences and student teaching placements meet program, state, and accreditation expectations. Maintain relevant records and provide information needed for reporting, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain communication among field-based stakeholders. Serve as a central communication point among students, field supervisors, cooperating teachers, school personnel, program directors, and School of Education leadership. Work with appropriate faculty and supervisors when concerns arise related to student performance, professionalism, placement fit, or school-based expectations.
  • Coordinate and support field supervisors. Assist with communication, documentation, expectations, and support for field supervisors working with Xavier students in field experiences and student teaching placements. Collaborate with program directors and School of Education leadership regarding supervisor needs, concerns, and qualifications. 7. Serve as an initial point of contact for licensure-related pathways and prospective students, as appropriate. Provide general information to prospective or newly admitted students seeking teacher licensure, especially as it relates to field experiences, clinical expectations, and program pathways. Collaborate with program directors and graduate/admission personnel as needed, while formal academic advising remains with the appropriate program faculty or director.
  • Support recruitment through partnership-building and program visibility. Participate in recruitment-related events or communications when connected to school partnerships, licensure pathways, field experiences, or community engagement. The primary recruitment contribution of this role is through relationship-building with area schools and districts, which includes coordination with Xavier’s Centers for Education.
  • Teach course(s) aligned with expertise and program needs. In coordination with the Director of the School of Education and program directors, teach approximately one course per semester or as assigned, based on the individual’s credentials, expertise, and the needs of the School of Education.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills, especially in managing student records, placement documentation, and electronic files.
