Job summary

Xavier Law Firm is seeking a full-time attorney to join our growing practice. We are looking for a motivated advocate with strong litigation skills and a commitment to representing immigrants and detained individuals.


Spanish/English bilingual ability is strongly preferred, but not required.


This position focuses on immigration litigation and removal defense, including detained representation, habeas corpus petitions, immigration appeals, motion practice, USCIS matters, and complex case strategy before immigration courts, federal courts, and government agencies.


Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Provide high-quality legal representation to clients in immigration and related litigation matters;
  • Represent detained and non-detained clients in removal proceedings, bond hearings, and other immigration court appearances;
  • Prepare and file habeas corpus petitions, motions, appeals, and other litigation-related pleadings;
  • Draft persuasive legal briefs, memoranda, and motions for immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, federal courts, and agency matters;
  • Evaluate cases, identify defenses and forms of relief, and develop strategic case plans;
  • Handle affirmative immigration matters before USCIS, including family-based petitions, adjustment of status, naturalization, waivers, humanitarian applications, and related filings;
  • Prepare immigration filings for submission to USCIS, EOIR, ICE, CBP, and federal courts;
  • Conduct legal research and analyze complex factual and legal issues;
  • Communicate effectively with clients, including vulnerable populations and individuals in detention;
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and support to assigned legal staff;
  • Manage deadlines, hearings, and a high-volume caseload with professionalism and attention to detail.

  • Qualifications

    Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills;
    • Spanish fluency strongly preferred;
    • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities;
    • Experience drafting briefs, motions, appeals, and other persuasive legal filings;
    • Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment;
    • Strong organizational and case management skills;
    • Detail-oriented with sound professional judgment;
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team;
    • Strong client service and interpersonal skills;
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion;
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general legal technology systems.

  • Required

    • J.D. degree from an accredited law school;
    • Licensed to practice law in the United States;
    • Admitted and in good standing with the Texas Bar;
    • Commitment to immigration advocacy and client-centered representation.

  • Preferred

    • Spanish fluency;
    • Experience in immigration law, including USCIS matters, removal defense, federal litigation, and/or criminal law;
    • Experience representing detained clients;
    • Familiarity with habeas corpus petitions and federal court practice;
    • Experience handling immigration appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals or federal appellate courts;
    • Experience with family-based, humanitarian, and employment-based USCIS filings;
    • Experience working with survivors of trauma, including domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking;
    • Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with immigrant communities;
    • Prior courtroom or contested hearing experience.
